Third Hand Solutions–Deal One

Here was the original problem:

Deal one — 3NT South

Solution–
You should play the queen. This is called a “discovery play”. It “discovers” who has the K♣️. Look at this situation from South’s point of view:

South does not know which defender has the A♣️. So South must play the K♣️ on your Q♣️ or risk losing it. If you had played the A♣️ on the first trick then declarer could hold up his/her K♣️ and sever your communication. In the event that the Q♣️ wins (i.e. Partner has K♣️) you will continue with the A♣️ and then a small ♣️ toward partner’s K♣️.
