Sea Rod Coral

In the underwater world, when you first see a sea rod, it appears to be like a skinny cactus, i.e. some sort of plant. When you see it closeup, like in this image, you realize that it is a giant colony of individual animals. Each of these ghost-like hands is called a polyp. In this image they are feeding on any passing morsel. I took this photo in the Bahamas at a dive site called Sand Shoe.
